Self-Harm Therapy and Support London

Understanding Self-Harm

Self-harm is a sign that a person is suffering and has not yet found other ways to cope with intense emotional pain. It is not attention-seeking behaviour. Self-harm affects people of all ages, backgrounds, and genders, and it is far more common than many people realise.

Our Practitioners Who Work with Self-Harm

How We Can Help

Our approach is rooted in compassion, safety, and genuine understanding. We are experienced in DBT — the gold-standard evidence-based treatment for self-harm — as well as trauma-informed therapy, EMDR, and compassion-focused approaches.

Why Choose London Trusted Therapy for Self-Harm Support?

Reaching out for help with self-harm takes considerable courage. At London Trusted Therapy, you will be met — from your very first contact — with compassion, genuine understanding, and complete freedom from judgement. We know that self-harm is a sign of suffering, not weakness, and we have the clinical expertise to support you safely and effectively.

A clinically led, multidisciplinary team

Every practitioner at London Trusted Therapy holds substantial postgraduate training and professional accreditation, with a minimum of five years of clinical experience and an average of fifteen to twenty years across the team. Our practitioners include chartered and counselling psychologists, psychotherapists and counsellors accredited with the BACP, UKCP, COSRT and HCPC- all working under the clinical direction of Dr Olena Edwards-Skadowska, BACP Accredited Psychotherapist, MBPsS, FMBPsS, and actively practising clinician.

Dr Edwards-Skadowska is the recipient of the Outstanding Leadership Award for Services to Mental Health, presented at the Health 2.0 Global Conference 2024 — a recognition that reflects the values of excellence, integrity, and genuine clinical commitment that run through everything London Trusted Therapy does.

At London Trusted Therapy, you will be seen by a practitioner who is an expert in self-harm and emotional dysregulation — someone who brings deep, focused expertise to your presentation, rather than whoever is next available.

What Our Clients Say About Us

4.86 rating based on Doctify, Google and Trustpilot reviews

The Breadth to Meet Your Full Picture

Self-harm is almost always part of a broader picture — trauma, emotional dysregulation, neurodevelopmental factors, or significant relational difficulties. Our multidisciplinary structure means that where your needs require it, we can facilitate internal cross-referral to psychiatry for risk assessment and medication review, to EMDR for trauma processing, or to other specialists within the team. Nothing falls through the gap.

A holistic, integrative approach

London Trusted Therapy is a holistic practice. We do not begin with a protocol and fit you to it — we begin with you.

For self-harm, this means first and foremost creating a safe, non-judgemental therapeutic relationship in which the pain underlying the behaviour can begin to be understood. Somatic Experiencing addresses the physiological dimension of the emotional dysregulation that so often drives self-harm, working gently with the body’s stress response. Mindfulness-based approaches build greater awareness of and tolerance for intense emotional states. DBT provides structured skills for distress tolerance and emotional regulation where these are indicated. EMDR is drawn on where trauma underlies the presentation. Compassion-focused work addresses the shame that almost always accompanies self-harm.
Treatment is always paced to your readiness, with your safety at the centre.
