Perfectionism is a pattern of setting excessively high standards combined with harsh self-criticism when those standards are not met. Whilst often mistaken for a positive trait, clinical perfectionism is associated with anxiety, depression, burnout, and procrastination.

Clinical perfectionism rarely exists in isolation. Where it connects with anxiety, depression, burnout, or neurodevelopmental factors such as ADHD, our multidisciplinary structure allows for internal cross-referral across the team — including psychiatric review, EMDR, or neurodiversity-affirming therapy — without you needing to start the process again elsewhere.
London Trusted Therapy is a holistic practice. We do not begin with a protocol and fit you to it — we begin with you.
For perfectionism, this means drawing on schema therapy and psychodynamic approaches to understand the deeper origins of your perfectionist patterns — the early experiences and relational dynamics that taught you that your worth was conditional on performance. Compassion-focused therapy addresses the harsh inner critic at the heart of perfectionism. Mindfulness-based approaches develop a more accepting, present-moment relationship with imperfection. ACT and CBT are integrated where values clarification and thought restructuring are helpful tools. The aim is not to lower your standards — it is to free you from the suffering they cause.
Should you feel that your first session did not meet your expectations or that your therapist wasn’t a good fit, we will provide another session completely free of charge with a different practitioner.
