Perfectionism Therapy London

What Is Perfectionism?

Perfectionism is a pattern of setting excessively high standards combined with harsh self-criticism when those standards are not met. Whilst often mistaken for a positive trait, clinical perfectionism is associated with anxiety, depression, burnout, and procrastination.

Our Practitioners Who Work with Perfectionism

How We Treat Perfectionism

We draw on CBT, compassion-focused therapy, schema therapy, and ACT to help you understand the origins of your perfectionist patterns and develop a healthier, more sustainable relationship with achievement and self-worth.

Why Choose London Trusted Therapy for Perfectionism?

Perfectionism is widely celebrated — until it quietly destroys your wellbeing, your relationships, and your capacity to enjoy what you have worked so hard to achieve. At London Trusted Therapy, we understand the psychology of perfectionism with real clinical depth, and we work with you to dismantle it without asking you to abandon your standards or your ambition.

A clinically led, multidisciplinary team

Every practitioner at London Trusted Therapy holds substantial postgraduate training and professional accreditation, with a minimum of five years of clinical experience and an average of fifteen to twenty years across the team. Our practitioners include chartered and counselling psychologists, psychotherapists and counsellors accredited with the BACP, UKCP, COSRT and HCPC- all working under the clinical direction of Dr Olena Edwards-Skadowska, BACP Accredited Psychotherapist, MBPsS, FMBPsS, and actively practising clinician.

Dr Edwards-Skadowska is the recipient of the Outstanding Leadership Award for Services to Mental Health, presented at the Health 2.0 Global Conference 2024 — a recognition that reflects the values of excellence, integrity, and genuine clinical commitment that run through everything London Trusted Therapy does.

At London Trusted Therapy, you will be seen by a practitioner who is an expert in perfectionism and its psychological impact — someone who brings deep, focused expertise to your presentation, rather than whoever is next available.

What Our Clients Say About Us

4.86 rating based on Doctify, Google and Trustpilot reviews

The Breadth to Meet Your Full Picture

Clinical perfectionism rarely exists in isolation. Where it connects with anxiety, depression, burnout, or neurodevelopmental factors such as ADHD, our multidisciplinary structure allows for internal cross-referral across the team — including psychiatric review, EMDR, or neurodiversity-affirming therapy — without you needing to start the process again elsewhere.

A holistic, integrative approach

London Trusted Therapy is a holistic practice. We do not begin with a protocol and fit you to it — we begin with you.

For perfectionism, this means drawing on schema therapy and psychodynamic approaches to understand the deeper origins of your perfectionist patterns — the early experiences and relational dynamics that taught you that your worth was conditional on performance. Compassion-focused therapy addresses the harsh inner critic at the heart of perfectionism. Mindfulness-based approaches develop a more accepting, present-moment relationship with imperfection. ACT and CBT are integrated where values clarification and thought restructuring are helpful tools. The aim is not to lower your standards — it is to free you from the suffering they cause.
