The perimenopause and menopause transition can have a profound impact on mental health — contributing to anxiety, depression, mood instability, low self-esteem, brain fog, and sleep disruption. Many women are surprised by the psychological impact and find that their symptoms are dismissed or attributed to other causes.

The psychological impact of perimenopause and menopause is still too often dismissed — by medical professionals, by employers, and sometimes by women themselves. At London Trusted Therapy, we take this experience seriously as a clinical matter, and we offer expert, compassionate support grounded in both psychological understanding and profound respect for your lived experience.
Every practitioner at London Trusted Therapy holds substantial postgraduate training and professional accreditation, with a minimum of five years of clinical experience and an average of fifteen to twenty years across the team. Our practitioners include chartered and counselling psychologists, psychotherapists and counsellors accredited with the BACP, UKCP, COSRT and HCPC- all working under the clinical direction of Dr Olena Edwards-Skadowska, BACP Accredited Psychotherapist, MBPsS, FMBPsS, and actively practising clinician.
Dr Edwards-Skadowska is the recipient of the Outstanding Leadership Award for Services to Mental Health, presented at the Health 2.0 Global Conference 2024 — a recognition that reflects the values of excellence, integrity, and genuine clinical commitment that run through everything London Trusted Therapy does.

The menopause transition can surface or intensify anxiety, depression, identity concerns, relationship difficulties, and in some cases, earlier unresolved experiences. Our multidisciplinary structure means that where your needs extend beyond individual therapy, we can facilitate internal cross-referral — to psychiatry for review of mood and sleep symptoms, to couples therapy where relationships have been affected, or to EMDR where the transition has intersected with earlier trauma. Everything remains within one trusted practice.
For menopause and mental health, this means approaching the transition as a whole-person experience — physical, psychological, relational, and existential. Mindfulness-based approaches support equanimity and present-moment capacity in the face of unpredictable symptoms. Somatic approaches address the embodied dimensions of the transition, including sleep disruption, physical discomfort, and nervous system dysregulation. Psychodynamic and existential exploration holds space for the profound identity questions that this life stage can raise. Compassion-focused work addresses the self-criticism and loss of confidence that many women experience. CBT and ACT are integrated where cognitive and acceptance-based approaches are useful complements.
Should you feel that your first session did not meet your expectations or that your therapist wasn’t a good fit, we will provide another session completely free of charge with a different practitioner.
