Codependency Therapy London

Our Co-dependency Specialists

Our practitioners specialize in helping people break free from co-dependent patterns and build healthier relationships. They understand that co-dependency is rooted in attachment wounds, family dynamics, and learned beliefs about worth and love. They’ll help you understand how these patterns developed, identify where you lose yourself in relationships, develop skills for setting boundaries without guilt, reconnect with your own needs and identity, and learn to distinguish between genuine care and co-dependent caretaking. Whether you’re in a relationship with someone struggling with addiction, personality issues, or general dysfunction, or you find yourself falling into co-dependent patterns across multiple relationships, they can help you reclaim yourself and build relationships based on mutual respect rather than self-sacrifice.

Understanding Co-dependency

Maybe you’re constantly rescuing someone from consequences they’ve created, enabling their addiction, dysfunction, or irresponsibility because you can’t bear to see them struggle. Perhaps you feel responsible for other people’s emotions, walking on eggshells to keep them happy, or believing that if you just love them enough, give enough, or do enough, they’ll change. You might stay in relationships that hurt you because you’re afraid of being alone, feel guilty setting boundaries, or don’t believe you deserve better. Your self-worth comes from being needed rather than from knowing you’re inherently valuable.
For people in relationship with someone who’s co-dependent, it can feel suffocating, guilt-inducing, or like they’re not allowed to grow because you need them to stay dependent.
You might not know what you want, need, or feel because you’re so focused on someone else. Your relationships are one-sided – you give constantly but feel empty, unappreciated, and resentful, yet you keep giving. You ignore red flags, make excuses for poor treatment, and sacrifice your own needs, goals, and wellbeing for someone who may not even appreciate it. Decision-making is difficult without external validation. You might feel anxious when you’re not needed or when the other person seems fine without you. Setting boundaries feels impossible because it triggers overwhelming guilt or fear of abandonment.
You attract or stay with people who take advantage of your giving nature – partners with addiction, narcissistic traits, or emotional unavailability. Meanwhile, your own life – career, friendships, health, dreams – gets neglected because all your energy goes to managing someone else’s life.
Co-dependency usually develops in childhood – perhaps you had a parent you had to take care of, an unstable home where you learned your value came from being helpful, or relationships where your needs were ignored or punished. Those adaptive strategies made sense then but now keep you trapped in unhealthy patterns.
Recovery means learning that you can’t control or fix other people, that boundaries are acts of love (including self-love), and that your worth isn’t contingent on being needed. It means developing a relationship with yourself, identifying your own needs and feelings, and learning that healthy relationships involve interdependence, not one person disappearing into another. You deserve to be valued for who you are, not just what you do for others.
