Burnout is a state of chronic physical and emotional exhaustion caused by prolonged exposure to excessive demands. Recognised by the World Health Organisation as an occupational phenomenon, burnout goes far beyond ordinary tiredness. In London’s high-pressure professional environment — law, finance, medicine, entrepreneurship — burnout is increasingly common.

Burnout is not a character flaw or a sign of weakness. It is the predictable consequence of sustained, excessive demand — and recovering from it requires more than rest. At London Trusted Therapy, we work with a great many high-functioning professionals who have quietly reached their limit, and we understand both the clinical and the human dimensions of that experience.
Every practitioner at London Trusted Therapy holds substantial postgraduate training and professional accreditation, with a minimum of five years of clinical experience and an average of fifteen to twenty years across the team. Our practitioners include chartered and counselling psychologists, psychotherapists and counsellors accredited with the BACP, UKCP, COSRT and HCPC- all working under the clinical direction of Dr Olena Edwards-Skadowska, BACP Accredited Psychotherapist, MBPsS, FMBPsS, and actively practising clinician.
Dr Edwards-Skadowska is the recipient of the Outstanding Leadership Award for Services to Mental Health, presented at the Health 2.0 Global Conference 2024 — a recognition that reflects the values of excellence, integrity, and genuine clinical commitment that run through everything London Trusted Therapy does.

Burnout rarely arrives alone. Where exhaustion has tipped into depression, anxiety, or physical symptoms warranting review, our multidisciplinary structure allows for internal cross-referral — to psychiatry for assessment and medication support, to EMDR where earlier trauma has compounded the picture, or to our therapeutic coaching practitioners where professional identity and direction need to be rebuilt. You do not have to seek this out separately; it is available within our team.
For burnout, this means addressing the whole person: somatic and mindfulness-based approaches to help the depleted nervous system begin to recover; existential and psychodynamic exploration to understand the values, beliefs, and relational patterns that contributed to burnout in the first place; and compassion-focused work to address the harsh self-criticism that so often drives high achievers beyond their limits. ACT and CBT are drawn on where restructuring of thought patterns and values clarification are helpful. Where appropriate, therapeutic coaching supports the rebuilding of professional identity and sustainable ways of working.
Should you feel that your first session did not meet your expectations or that your therapist wasn’t a good fit, we will provide another session completely free of charge with a different practitioner.
